Las Vegas Exploits Part 1

On our first full day in Las Vegas, we spent the morning walking around the Strip.  We ended at Planet Hollywood and the mall area inside.  We got breakfast at some place who’s name escapes me.  On the way back, we stopped inside Caesar's Palace.  Mom had spoken to some guy she knew who had been to Vegas many times before.  He told her, and I quote, “Go in the main doors of Caesar’s Palace, turn left.  The second row of slots, second machine from the right, that’s the money slot machine.” Determined, Mom sat down at that machine, put in the free five dollar coupon she had, and in about four minutes turned it into over ninety dollars.  I followed suit and walked away $35 richer.

We pretty much just wandered around the Mirage the rest of the day.  It was still raining, so we didn’t really feel like walking far.  Mom and I both lost most of what we won that morning.  We watched Illinois basketball in the Sports Bar, while George spent three hours in the poker room turning $200 into $192.  Time well spent.

George and I are soon heading over to the Hard Rock Cafe for a poker tournament.  Wish me luck.

Friggin’ Quizno’s

It’s 8:11 here in Las Vegas, and I’ve been up for two hours because my body thinks it should be making sandwiches.  Stupid time zones.

So this vacation is off to a rocky start.  My folks were supposed to get in today, and I got in last night.  Dad extended the reservation on one of the rooms an extra night so I would have somewhere to sleep.  Considerate, right?

When I arrived at the hotel, I go to check in and the woman behind the desk says, “Oh, I see a reservation for tonight, but it looks like someone has already checked in.”  Well, that’s impossible, because surely my parents would have let me know if they were coming in early, wouldn’t you think?  After trying to figure out what was going on with the woman for like fifteen minutes, I call Mom and lo and behold, I’m made to look quite the fool.

Once I got upstairs, Mom was in bed and George and Dad were across the street playing poker.  I was too tired to do anything, so that’s it.  Tomorrow’s update will be more interesting, I promise.
